This extraordinary life study exemplifies the mastery of a true draughtsman. Observe, for instance, how the confidently applied lines depend heavily on “lost and found” edges of the figure—where tonal emphasis highlights critical points along the silhouette, accentuating the tensions between bone and the tight curves of compressed muscle—particularly at the knees and elbows.
