Johann Adam Klein’s etching, “Foal with Herbs”, 1814

“Foal with Herbs” (aka “Das Fohlen bei Kräutern”), 1814, title plate to a series of twelve plates executed in Vienna from direct observation in nature by the artist and published in Nuremberg by Johann Friedrich Frauenholz (1758–1822). This is a proof impression before lettering with the publication details.

Etching on wove paper with wide margins.

Size: (sheet) 21.5 x 24.8 cm; (plate) 14.1 x 16.1 cm; (image borderline) 12 x 13.8 cm.

Inscribed in plate within the image borderline: (upper left corner) “[artist’s monogram] fc”; (upper centre) “12. radierte Blätter v. J: A: Klein./ nach der Natur gez; u. geäzrt/ in Wien 1814.”

Condition: a strong and well-printed impression with wide margins in a very good condition with no tears, holes, folds, significant stains or foxing.

I am selling this beautiful and very poetic etching showing a foal a resting on a bed of leafy greens, for AU$199 (currently US$133.01/EUR120.35/GBP105.94 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
