Condition: This is a well-printed early impression, still showing the original lettering guidelines at the upper right. The print has been trimmed with a thread margin around the platemark and is backed with archival (millennium-quality) washi paper, providing wide margins. The sheet is in good condition, with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, or significant stains.

The total price for this historically significant, circular-format scene of a portside view in Lyon during the mid-1600s—depicting the banks of the Saône River—is AU$249 (approximately US$165.91, EUR €140.84, or GBP £121.85). Condition: a strong and well-printed impression with a printer's wipe mark (?) on the huddle of three figures, laid upon a sheet of millennium quality washi paper providing wide margins. Beyond a fracture in the lower right corner of the margin, the sheet is in an excellent condition with no significant stains or other issues.

Note that the attribution of this print to Gabriel Perelle, rather than to his sons (Nicolas and Adam), follows the British Museum convention in that prints inscribed with the name, “Perelle,” are catalogued under the father’s name, “Gabriel Perelle” (see https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG41615).

Beyond faint darkening at the corners (possibly traces of glue verso), the sheet is in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions or significant stains.

This hand-coloured impression is from the first edition before the edition by Pierre Mariette I) (1634–1716) in 1667 and the later edition by Charles Antoine Jombert (1712–1784) in 1751.

François Perrier (aka Le Bourguignon) (1594–1649)

“Rest on the Flight into Egypt”, c.1629 (BM: 1609–49), a first state/lifetime impression published by Jean Leblond I (aka Jean Le Blond) (c.1590/94–1666) with royal privilege of the French Crown.

Alexandre-Pierre-François Robert-Dumesnil (1835) advises that the etching follows the design of a painting that may be seen in the church of Sainte-Elisabeth in Paris (see vol. 6, p. 164)—possibly Eglise Sainte Élisabeth de Hongrie (see https://www.patrimoine-histoire.fr/Patrimoine/Paris/Paris-Sainte-Elisabeth.htm), but I have been unable to find an image of this painting..
