Johannes Sadeler; Johann Sadeler) (1550–1600)
“William,
Duke of Bavaria” (TIB title) (aka “Portrait of William V of Bavaria with the
Order of the Fleece”), c. 1580. William V (1548–1626), known as "William
the Pious" for his devotion to prayer, was Duke of Bavaria from 1579 to
1597. He was also a notable patron of the arts, supporting the development and
spread of Mannerism in Bavaria through commissioning works and fostering
artistic innovation during his reign.
Engraving
on fine laid paper, trimmed around the oval image borderline and laid upon a
support sheet.

(oval sheet) 16 x 12.5 cm.

a well-printed impression trimmed around the oval image borderline and laid on
an archival-quality millennium washi support providing wide margins. The sheet
is in excellent condition, free from tears, holes, folds, abrasions, or stains.
