Jean François Millet, “Woman Churning Butter”, 1855

Jean François Millet (1814–1875)
“Woman Churning Butter” (also known as “La Baratteuse” and “Woman Churning”), 1855

Technical Details & Condition:

Etching, with touches of drypoint, printed in rich brown ink on buff laid paper. It is from the third and final state, featuring the scratch inscribed address of the printer, Auguste Delâtre (also known as Auguste Marie Delâtre) (1822–1907). The impression is strong and well-printed, though the printer’s address appears faint. The sheet has small margins (approximately 1 cm) with minor age-toning along the edges. There are remnants of mounting on the verso. Overall, it is in very good condition, free from tears, holes, folds, abrasions, or significant stains.
