(Attrib.) Jean Lepautre (aka Jean Le Pautre; Jean Le Potre) (1618–1682) or a printmaker from the circle of this artist (e.g., Gabriel Perelle (1604–1677) and the publisher, Jean Leblond I (Jean Le Blond) (c.1590/4–1660) whose name is inscribed in the plate.

Condition: a strong and well-printed impression with a printer's wipe mark (?) on the huddle of three figures, laid upon a sheet of millennium quality washi paper providing wide margins. Beyond a fracture in the lower right corner of the margin, the sheet is in an excellent condition with no significant stains or other issues.

“Font with Two Variants at Bottom and Ornamented with the Adoration of the Shepherds”, c.1667, plate 2 from the series of six plates depicting fonts in the Roman style (“Plates ala Romaine”), published in 1667 by Jean Leblond I (aka Jean Le Blond) (c.1590/94–1666) with privilege from Louis XIV (King of France) (1638–1715). This hand-coloured impression is from the first edition before the edition by Pierre Mariette I) (1634–1716) in 1667 and the later edition by Charles Antoine Jombert (1712–1784) in 1751.

Condition: a slightly pale impression with vibrant watercolour hand-colouring showing minor staining of the colour in the small margin around the platemark. The sheet is in very good condition with no tears, holes or folds and is backed with a support sheet of archival (millennium quality) washi paper

“Ornamental Panel with a Cavalry Charge Roundel” (descriptive title only), c.1655–57, possibly from the series, “Ornements de Panneaux” (Panel Ornaments), published by Pierre Mariette II (1634–1716) (see another print in this series held by the Rijksmuseum: http://hdl.handle.net/10934/RM0001.COLLECT.414054).

Interestingly, this print was copied in reverse as a coloured engraving in the series “Opus Typochromaticum” (Typochromatic work), c.1688–1700, published by Johannes Teyler (aka Johan Tailler; Joannes Teijler) (1648–1712) who is famous for patenting a method of colour printing from a single plate à la poupée in 1688 (see https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1871-1209-5062).

Condition: a strong and well-printed impression showing no sign of wear to the printing plate.
