Unidentified Belgium artist’s etching, “Riverside with Windmill, Evening”, c.1874–88

Unidentified 19th century Belgium artist—possibly Jean Pierre François Lamorinière (aka Jean Pierre François Lamorinière) (1828-1911), based on stylistic attributes (see, this artist’s interest in atmospheric effects (see and the high order of skills and creative invention exhibited, such as the careful wiping of the plate to punctuate the portrayed evening scene with small lights. Note, however, that this print is not formally catalogued by Hippert & Linnig (1879) as being one of the artist’s twenty-three plates (see T. Hippert & J. Linnig 1879, “Le peintre-graveur hollandais et belge du 19me siècle” vol 1, Brussels, Chez Fr.-J. Oliver, pp 550–557, cat nos. 1–23 []), nevertheless, the publication date of this catalogue (1874) precedes the artist’s death in 1911.
