Jean Pierre Norblin de la Gourdaine (aka Jean Pierre Norblin de la Gordaine) (1745–1830)

“Head of a Young Man with a Beret Adorned with a Feather” (MIA title), 1778
Etching and drypoint on ivory Japanese (wove) paper with small margins and backed with a support sheet.

Size: (sheet) 3.2 x 2.9 cm; (oval plate) 2.3 x 1.9 cm
Inscribed on plate at lower left (above the portrayed man’s right shoulder): “1788”.
State iii (attributes of this state offered by the BM: “third state, with hat adorned with feather, and with date. 1778” [BM No. 1853,0312.291])

Hillemacher 1848 54.III (Frédéric Hillemacher 1848, “Catalogue des estampes qui composent l'oeuvre de J. P. Norblin”, Paris, cat.no. 54).

The British Museum offers the following description of this print:
“Head of a young man looking to left and wearing hat adorned with feather; within oval …”

Condition: faultless impression of this miniature etching laid onto a support sheet of archival (millennium quality) washi paper. The sheet is in near pristine condition (i.e. there are no tears, holes, folds, abrasions stains, foxing, or signs of use).

I am selling this near faultless tiny jewel of an etching by one of the most important artists of the Enlightenment in Poland for AU$256 (currently US$186.82/EUR164.72/GBP146.77 at the time of posting this print) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world (but not, of course, any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries).
