Evert van Muyden’s etching, “Lionne à l'Affût”, 1900

Evert van Muyden (aka Évert Louis van Muyden) (1853–1922)

“Lionne à l'Affût” (Lioness on the Lookout), 1900 (as inscribed in the plate), printed by Louis Fort (fl. early 1900s) and published in Paris in the periodical, “Revue de l'Art Ancien et Moderne”, vol. 9, 1901, as an inserted original etching between pages 188 and 189 (see this print in its context in the publication: https://archive.org/details/larevuedelartanc09pariuoft/page/188/mode/2up).

Etching (with retroussage) printed in a dark brown ink on cream wove paper backed with a support sheet.

Size: (sheet) 21.8 x 29.3 cm; (plate [soft impression]) 20.4 x 27 cm; (image borderline) 18.5 x 26.1 cm.

Inscribed in plate within the image borderline: (lower left) “E. VAN MUYDEN/ 1900”.

Lettered in plate below the image borderline: (left) “Revue de l’Art ancient et moderne”; (centre) “LIONNE À L'AFFÛT”; (right) “Imp. L. Fort”.

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed (near faultless) impression laid onto a sheet of archival (millennium quality) washi paper. The sheet is in a near pristine condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, losses, stains, foxing or signs of handling.

I am selling this superb etching capturing the inner life of a lioness fully consumed in studying her quarry for the total cost of AU$267 (currently US$196.34/EUR166.26/GBP142.69 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world (but not, of course, any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries).

If you are interested in purchasing this amazing etching where every feature in the background adds to the tension of the lioness’ complete attention on whatever she is watching—note how the artist has successful caught the bristling hair covering her coiled muscles—please contact me (oz_jim@printsandprinciples.com) and I will send you a PayPal invoice to make the payment easy.
