John Postle Heseltine, “Branscombe, Dyon”, 1881

John Postle Heseltine (1843–1929) —British printmaker and an important collector, especially of Old Master drawings (see for example his vast collection of Rembrandt drawings published in one of the thirteen volumes showcasing his collection:  https://archive.org/details/dessinsderembran00unse/page/n11/mode/thumb).   

“Branscombe, East Devon”, 1881, artist’s proof before publication in Paris in 1881 by the widow of Alfred Cadart (1828–1875) (Veuve A. Cadart [fl.1875-1882]) as plate 23 in “L'eau-forte en 1881” (see the description of this print offered by the Musée d'art et d'histoire [MAH], City of Geneva: https://www.mahmah.ch/collection/oeuvres/branscombe-dyon/e-2019-0199-023).

Etching with plate tone printed in brown ink on fine buff coloured laid Japanese paper with wide margins and a pencil inscription from a previous collector giving details about the print at lower right corner.

Size: (sheet) 26.7 x 38.7 cm; (plate) 19.1 x 28.3 cm; (image borderline) 18.5 x 27.5 cm.

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed artist’s proof impression with wide margins and a pencil notation at the lower right corner. The sheet is in a pristine condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions or stains.

I am selling this superb artist’s proof impression of a very beautiful etching that almost glows with the portrayed morning light for AU$277 (equivalent to approximately US$177.31, EUR 157.70, or GBP 133.85 at the time of listing) and includes Express Mail Service (EMS) postage and handling to any worldwide destination. Please note that any import duties or taxes levied by the destination country, if any, are the responsibility of the buyer and are not included in the purchase price. Payment is requested in Australian dollars (AU$277).
