“Un Relais. Bords
de Sème à Samois” (“A Relay, Banks of the Sème in Samois”), 1876, a proof possibly
printed by Alfred Salmon (fl.1863–1894) (based on a related plate held
by the British Museum: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1870-0514-875
[BM inv. 1870,0514.875) before lettering with the title and with the
publication details showing
the widow of Alfred Cadart (1828–1875) (Veuve A. Cadart [Eugène
Montrosier] [fl.1875-1882]) as the publisher in Paris (see an impression held
by the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire [MAH] of the lettered state: https://www.mahmah.ch/collection/oeuvres/un-relais-bords-de-la-seme-samois/e-2019-0194-005).
Note that the lettered state of this plate was published in Paris in 1876 as
plate number 6 (of 30) in “l'Eau-Forte en 1876” (see https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8527611w/f22.item).
Etching with
plate tone printed in a dark brown ink on laid paper (Arches MBM Ingres paper) with
wide margins.
