“Le Sarno à Scafati (Italie)”, 1889, after a watercolour by Charlotte Nathaniel de (Baronne) Rothschild (aka Charlotte de Rothschild; Mme le Baronne Nathaniel de Rothschild) (1825–1899) that was exhibited in the eighth exhibition of the French Watercolour Society, printed by A Clèment (fl.c.1887–1892) and published in Paris in the art periodical “L’Art”.

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed (near faultless) impression with wide margins in a pristine condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, stains or signs of handling.

I am offering this closely observed view of the Sarno River as it passes through the small town of Scafati on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. My eyes are drawn to the way the artist captures the intense midday sun illuminating the charming stone buildings and their reflections in the dark water. Condition: Richly inked and well-printed strong impression with generously wide margins as published. There are a few faint marks in the margins and the lower right corner is slightly thin in thickness compared to the rest of the sheet, otherwise the sheet is in excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions or significant stains.

I am selling this beautifully executed etching—note how the etcher has been able to connote the difference of sheen and light intensity between the light spreading over the brow of the meditative monk and the gleam of light hitting the curls of his hair—for $234 (currently US$168.30/EUR142.63/GBP130.12 at the time of posting this listing) including Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
