“Tronc d'Arbre” (Tree Trunk), 1877—this is the second copy of this etching that I have listed (the previous copy has been sold)

Technical Details & Condition:

Etching on laid paper with with wide margins as issued. This work is based on a painting by Narcisse Diaz de la Peña (also known as Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña) (1807–1876). It was printed in Paris by François Liénard (fl. c. 1860s–1880s) and published in the French art periodical L'Art. The impression is from the final published state (state vi).

This is a richly inked, well-printed (near faultless) impression with generous margins. Aside from a thin spot in the margin at the lower right—an imperfection in the paper—the sheet is in near pristine condition, free of tears, holes, folds, abrasions, stains, or signs of handling.

La Descente des Bohémiens” (The Descent of the Bohemians), 1877, etching after the oil painting by Narcisse Diaz de la Peña (aka Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña) (1807–1876) in the collection of the Worchester Art Museum (see https://worcester.emuseum.com/objects/33724/la-descente-des-bohemiens-the-descent-of-the-bohemians), printed by Alfred Salmon (fl.1863–1894) and published in Paris in the art periodical, “Gazette des Beaux-Arts” in 1877 between pages 298 and 299.

Etching on laid paper, trimmed with narrow margins around the platemark and backed with a support sheet.

“Sous Bois” (undergrowth), 1873, after a painting of the same composition by Narcisse Diaz de la Peña (aka Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Peña) (1807–1876), printed in Paris by Alfred Salmon (aka Adolphe Ardail; Salmon & Ardail; Alfred Fortuné Salmon) (fl.1863–1894). This etching was initially printed by Alfred Cadart (1828–1875) in Paris as an illustration to the art periodical, “Gazette des Beaux-Arts”, 1st April, 1873, between pages 374 and 375.

Etching on fine wove paper, trimmed with a narrow margin around the platemark and backed with a support sheet providing wide margins.

Size: (sheet) 18.1 x 20.4 cm; (platemark) 16.3 x 19.7 cm; (image borderline) 13.5 x 16.5 cm.

Lettered in plate above the image borderline: (centre [indistinct]) “Diaz”.

The sheet is in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions or significant stains.
