Frédéric Régamey (aka Frederic Regamey) (1849-1925)
“Cat with a Mouse in its Mouth”
(descriptive title only), 1873, an etching exemplifying the strong influence of
Japanese prints on French artists at the time—interestingly, the impact of Japanese
art in France was so profound that Frédéric’s brother, Félix Élie Régamey (1844–1907), even engaged in
a mock duel with the Japanese painter Kawanabe Kyōsai (1831–89) to see

published by Frank et Mandel for the
weekly journal, “Paris à l'Eau-Forte” (1873-76), in a numbered edition of 100
copies, edited by Richard Lesclide (1825–1892) (see Georges Vicaire 1894, “Manuel de l'amateur
de livres du XIXe siècle (1803-1893)” Paris, A. Rouquette, vol. VI, p. 370).
Etching on fine cream China
paper, trimmed with a small margin around the image borderline (as published)
and backed with a support sheet.

Signed on plate at lower
right-of-centre with the artist’s monogram.
Condition: a strong and
well-printed impression trimmed with a small margin around the circular image
borderline and laid onto a support of archival (millennium quality) washi
paper. The sheet is in near pristine condition (i.e. there are no tears, holes,
folds, abrasions, stains, foxing or signs of handling).

very small etching executed in the style of a Japanese woodblock print, for AU$227
