Berlin, with copyright registered by Frost & Reed in Washington. (The
publication details are based on my reading of the ultra-fine inscribed text on
the plate and my apologies for any inaccuracies.)
Etching with
drypoint printed in dark brown ink on heavy brown wove paper backed with a
support sheet.
Size: (sheet) 53.4
x 77 cm; (plate indistinct and measurement approx.) 43.5 x 68.5 cm; (image
borderline) 40.7 x 65.9 cm.
Lettered on
plate above the image borderline at centre (in extremely small lettering and I may be wrong in my reading of some of the details): “Published
at 8. Clare Street, Bristol, by Frost & Reed. Printsellers of London,
Bristol & Clifton. October 1st. 1899. Berlin. Stiefbold & Co. 49 Kromen
Strasse. Copyright registered.”

impressions:
Condition: an
exceptionally large and richly inked impression with generous margins laid upon
a conservator’s support sheet of fine archival/millennium quality washi paper.
The sheet has a few spots in the margin and shows age toning (i.e. darkening) otherwise
it is in excellent condition considering the age and huge size of the print.

this magnificently grand, rare masterpiece of nineteenth century printmaking
executed by one of the most famous of the animaliers—especially wild cats—for
the total cost of AU$620 (currently US$425.44/EUR385.28/GBP344.89 at the time
