Etching on ochre chine collè on wove paper backed with a support sheet and providing wide margins.

The etching is strong and well-printed. The sheet is in near pristine condition—free of tears, holes, folds and stains.

“Wetlands of Anjou”—the marsh at Anjou in the lower Loire valley, north-western France (my apologies if this information is incorrect, but the proposed site of the scene was given to me by the art dealer from whom I purchased the print and the etching is so rare that I have been unable to find other impressions of it or descriptions in the standard catalogues of Abraham's work by Beraldi and the IFF), 1868.

Etching wove paper with small margins around the image borderline, flattened gate-folds of publication and backed with a support sheet.

Size: (sheet) 25.1 x 35.5 cm; (image borderline) 22 x 34.7 cm.

Inscribed in plate within the image borderline: (lower right edge) “T. ABRAHAM PINXIT [et?] SCVL/ 1868”.

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed impression with small margins around the image borderline and laid onto a support of archival (millennium quality) washi paper providing wide margins. Beyond the flattened gate-fold of publication, the sheet is in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, abrasions or significant stains.

“L'Étang de Kernézet” (The Pond of Kernezet), 1881, after the artist’s painting exhibited in the Salon of 1881 (as inscribed in plate), printed in Paris by Alfred Salmon (aka Adolphe Ardail; Salmon & Ardail; Alfred Fortuné Salmon) (fl.1863–1894) and published in between pages 78 and 79 in the 1^st July edition of the art periodical, “Gazette des Beaux-Arts”, 1881.

Etching and drypoint on laid paper with small margins and backed with a support sheet (providing wider margins).

Beyond minor age-toning on the left edge, the sheet is in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, significant stains or foxing.

I am selling this remarkably strong etching of a pond (l'étang) near Kernezet in Western Brittany (France) rendered with great insight and skill—note, for instance, the way how the artist has added contour strokes within the dark foliage masses giving the trees detail and form—for AU$190 (currently US$127/EUR114.91/GBP101.15 at the time of this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.

Etching on wove paper, signed and dated on plate before lettering with publication details, backed with a support sheet.

Surprisingly, this large print does not seem to be in any of the major art museums, nevertheless, it features in the online images offered by Wikimedia: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tancr%C3%A8de_Abraham-La_chasse_dans_le_marais.jpg (Note: Wikimedia credits the Cabinet des estampes et des dessins de Strasbourg as holding this print but my search was unsuccessful in finding it).

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed impression with flattened trifold (for publication of the print in "L'Artiste") and laid onto a support of archival (millennium quality) washi paper with retouching of the fold-line crease. The sheet is in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, losses, abrasions, stains, foxing or signs of handling.

I am selling this large and poetically beautiful etching—note the artist’s fascination with how light shimmers on and sparkles through the screen of trees—executed eleven years before the first Impressionist Exhibition of 1874, for AU$246 (currently US$175.83/EUR149.55/GBP134.97 at the time of this listing) including Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
